Abstract Resident and staff education programs were an integral part of an ecological audiologic rehabilitation program which was carried out over a 12-month period in a home for the aged. Education focused on empowering communication participants through recognition of communication problems and development of the skills needed to overcome them. A client-centred approach was used, allowing tailoring of the program to individual needs.
