Abstract Les questionnaires aux parents sont un moyen rapide et économique d’obtenir des informations sur le langage des enfants. Le MacArthur Communicative Development Inventory (CDI) est un outil répandu dont la validité est bien documentée. Il peut être utilisé auprès de populations dont le langage se développe normalement ou non. Cet article relate les étapes de la création d’une adaptation franco-québécoise du CDI. Chaque étape est décrite, ainsi que les modifications apportées au questionnaire à chacune des étapes. Deux échantillons d’enfants de 30 mois (N = 38 et N = 20) et deux d’enfants de 18 mois (N = 27 et N = 22) ont participé à l’élaboration des questionnaires québécois. Les résultats obtenus par ces quatre groupes sont rapportés, à titre indicatif. Ceux-ci permettent d’observer certains des phénomènes déjà documentés auprès d’enfants de langue maternelle anglaise. Il demeure essentiel d’obtenir des normes québécoises pour le développement du langage chez le jeune enfant.



Parent questionnaires are a quick and economical way to obtain information on children’s language. The MacArthur Communicative Development Inventory (CDI) is a widespread tool whose validity is well documented. It may be used for populations with normal or unusual language development. This article describes the stages involved in the creation of a Québec-French adaptation of the CDI. Each stage is described as well as the changes brought to the questionnaire at each stage. Two samples of 30-month old children (N = 38 and N = 20) and two of 18-month old children (N = 27 and N = 22) were used in developing the Québec questionnaires. The results obtained for these four groups are given for information purposes. These allow the observation of certain phenomena already documented with children whose mother tongue is English. Nonetheless, it is essential that normative data for young children in Quebec be gathered.
